Hallmark Registration Procedure


Apply, verify and get the Hallmark Certification.

      To hallmark the jewels, the jeweler should send the jewels to the Hallmarking Center.

      While sending jewels to the center, the following particulars should be informed:

      Registration of the number obtained from BIS

      A description of the jewels

      Number of stones in the jewel, if any

      Weight of each jewel

      Purity of each jewel in carats

      Overall weight of the consignment

The fees structure payable for Hallmark Registration is as follows:

      For gold jewels: a minimum of Rs.200 per consignment and Rs.35 per jewel.

      For silver jewels: a minimum of Rs.150 per consignment and Rs.25 per jewel.

Steps to maintain a Consignment to Register Hallmark :

1. The jeweler should maintain a register of consignments sent to the AHC.

2. An authorized representative of the jeweler should sign every entry in the register.

3. The register should be maintained for a minimum of five years.

4. The register can be discarded after all the corresponding stock items are sold.

A few documents required for the hallmark registration.

1.  A Certificate of incorporation and a Certificate of commencement of business issued by the Registrar of Companies (RoC).

2.    Id Proof of the user.

3.    Latest the file of filled return.

4.    Current financial statement.

Is Hallmark compulsory?

The hallmarking become mandatory for gold jewelry, at one go across the nation from January 15, 2020, and will not be implemented in phases, as was expected earlier. Although, the Centre has given one year’s time to follow the new norm, which means that by January 2021, they will only be allowed to sell hallmarked ornaments.
